Q. Q. What is the current project status and next steps?
The feasibility study for the proposed NESEC has been undertaken and informed preliminary concepts and cost estimates for the facility. The project is reliant on receiving funding from external sources including State and Federal Government. If the City is successful in receiving sufficient funding grants, the project is proposed to be constructed in the next 5 years.
Q. Why is there not a pool proposed within NESEC?
The proposed site is not sufficient to accommodate a pool (facility with pool is generally known as a 'Leisure Centre'). Industry standards and benchmarking indicate a population of approximately 75,000 is required to warrant the investigation of a Leisure Centre - expected population for Ellenbrook Place is approximately 45,000 by 2021. For these reasons and the
existing leisure facilities located in the City, there is not a quantified need for another leisure facility in Ellenbrook.
